MNF/SNF Rate Well In Opening Round

(From Sports Business Daily)

The impact of moving Monday night NFL games to cable and Sunday night games to broadcast is coming into focus, as
NBC and ESPN both draw impressive Week 1 audiences.

ESPN pulls an 8.7 overnight for Vikings/Redskins in the early window of its doubleheader last night, and an 8.2 for Chargers/Raiders in the late slot, scoring a rare primetime win for the network.

In what will be ESPN's traditional MNF broadcast window from 8:30-11:45 pm, the network earned a 10.1 overnight, UP 20.2% from an 8.4 for Colts/Ravens on the opening Sunday last year.
[Last year, ABC's Eagles/Falcons MNF opener earned a 14.8/24 overnight Nielsen rating.]

ESPN said it won the night in primetime with a
10.2 overnight.

Pregame coverage on ESPN from 1-7 pm delivered a
4.1 combined overnight.

ESPN.com's NFL content experienced over 36 million page views on Monday, UP 47% from over 24 million from the comparable Monday last year.

Meanwhile, NBC's 14.3/23 final rating for Colts/Giants marks the highest rating for a broadcast network primetime season opener since DENNIS MILLER's debut in 2000.
