NICOLE KIDMAN, a presenter at Saturday's 2005 MTV MOVIE AWARDS (airing this Thursday, 8:30 pm ET/PT on MTV), was hurried in and out of THE SHRINE AUDITORIUM without bumping into ex-husband TOM CRUISE, who arrived on a motorcycle with his new love, KATIE HOLMES.
Holmes presented WAR OF THE WORLDS star Cruise with THE GENERATION AWARD, and in a reversal of their much-discussed Oprah appearance, she ran backstage to bring him out. Backstage, Cruise held Holmes' hand, but the authenticity of their union remains a hot topic of debate among the media and HOLLYWOOD observers.
"They're the kind of organism where neither needs another partner to reproduce," ANDY DICK joked on the arrivals carpet. "They don't even need each other."
