APPLE COMPUTER announced Monday it will switch to using INTEL's microprocessors and phase out the POWERPC processors mde by IBM and FREESCALE SEMICONDUCTOR, according to reports by technology website CNET NEWS.com and THE WALL STREET JOURNAL's website.
Both reports cited unnamed sources.
APPLE has used POWERPC processors since 1994. It reportedly plans to move lower-end computers such as the MAC MINI to INTEL chips by mid-2006 and higher end models such as the POWER MAC in mid-2007.
An INTEL spokesman declined to comment on Sunday, and APPLE representatives could not be reached for comment.
