QUESTION
I just got a new laptop with a DVD burner, but I'm at a loss as to how to connect my videocassette recorder so that I can burn some home movies to DVD. I don't seem to have the right kind of ports on the laptop to hook up the two machines.
Any thoughts?
ANSWER
Since most videocassette tapes store their data in analog form, you will need to get a laptop card or device that gives you the proper ports to plug in your VCR and convert the analog footage to digital video on your laptop's hard drive. Two common ways to do this include getting a video-converter card to install in your laptop's Cardbus slot, or adding an external converter box that connects to the computer's USB 2.0 or FireWire port.
