The Old Linear Guys

(From The Avid|DS Google User's Group)

The effect I've been trying to recreate with a DS to no avail is the old feeding one M/E into the DVE and then keying that M/E over itself on another bank to create video feedback.

Ahh, yes. I loved switchers.

E-MEM's were awesome. Recall a list from months back and watch the board light up.

Running a linear suite was like driving a ship -- throwing levers, punching buttons, ripping back and forth across the edit suite in your wheeled chair. That was real work!

None of this mamby pamby pen and tablet, ooh I've got a blister nonsense.

Be a man and throw a fader, would ya?

[Yes switchers and linear rooms were great. You could slide a fader up and down a few times while figuring out what you wanted to do. A great way to look like you're working when really you are going, "Oh, god, how do I make another new look?"]

[Plus, there was no way some kid down the block could undercut your rate with some low priced, edit system they downloaded.]
