CBS' announcement that the newest cycle of SURVIVOR will begin with the contestants being divided into ethnic groups, has caused a stir in New York City.
City Councilman JOHN LIU, an Asian-American, says,
"The idea of having a battle of the races is preposterous. How could anybody be so desperate for ratings?"
CBS responded with this statement:
"CBS fully recognizes the controversial nature of this format but has full confidence in the producers and their ability to produce the program in a responsible manner. SURVIVOR is a program that is no stranger to controversy and has always answered its critics on the screen."
Survivor is produced by MARK BURNETT PRODUTCIONS.
Councilman Liu is asking CBS to reconsider airing the show.
