See The Wonderful Things Digital Does In Newest OZ

(From The USA Today -- By Scott Bowles)

We're off to see the Wizard -- again.

Although THE WIZARD OF OZ has been available for years on videotape and DVD, WARNER HOME VIDEO promises the ultimate rendition of the 1939 classic on October 25th, when two DVD packages hit shelves.

The two-disc special edition will feature a new documentary on the film, along with an on-screen treatment of the illustrated book THE WONDERFUL WIZARD OF OZ, narrated by ANGELA LANSBURY.

The three-disc collector's edition also has a newly restored transfer of the 1925 feature-length silent version of THE WIZARD OF OZ, starring OLIVER HARDY and LARRY SEMON.

But the true lure of the DVDs, says GEORGE FELTENSTEIN, WARNER HOME VIDEO senior vice president, is the digital reproduction of the film's TECHNICOLOR presentation.

"It's incredible clarity," Feltenstein says. "It looks better than it did in the original release. I saw the burlap stitching on (SCARECROW) RAY BOLGER's forehead and a pimple on JUDY GARLAND's lip."
