(From The USA Today -- By Michael Hiestand)
THE UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH CAROLINA admitted to 10 NCAA rules violations committed under former football coach LOU HOLTZ. That means Holtz, coming to ESPN, joins RICK MAJERUS, MIKE JARVIS, and the late JIM VALVANO as ex-coaches who went to ESPN though their former programs were investigated by the NCAA. Says ESPN's Mike Soltys on Holtz --"This does not change plans to have him work for us."
THE GOLF CHANNEL says BETH HUTTER, in producing its NATIONWIDE TOUR EVENT last week, became the first female TV producer of a PGA TOUR sanctioned event.
DAVID NEAL, who headed NBC's OLYMPIC COVERAGE, becomes Executive Producer of NBC SPORTS, replacing TOMMY ROY, who'll continue to oversee NBC's GOLF. When the pair were roommates in NEW YORK in the early 1980s, Neal says, "We often conjured up visions of us running things" at NBC. Crazy kids.
