TOM CRUISE's ex-wife NICOLE KIDMAN will not attend Cruise and KATIE HOLMES' wedding ceremony.

Cruise wants Kidman at the SCIENTOLOGY ceremony to show their children -- CONOR and ISABELLA -- that divorced parents can still be friends. But reps for Kidman -- whose reasons for divorcing Cruise reportedly included his attempts to indoctrinate the children into SCIENTOLOGY -- say it's not going to happen.

ROSIE O'DONNELL is taking a break from saying rude things about people to leap to the defense of BROOKE SHIELDS, who has been doing public battle with Cruise over his vocal criticism of women who fight postpartum depression with drugs. On her official BLOG, O'Donnell wrote -- "After watching Tom on O (OPRAH) and then everywhere else in the free world, I think I may need to up my meds. Shout out to Brooke -- stand tall girl. You saved a lot of women by telling your truth."

In an incident that raised eyebrows recently, Holmes, who accompanied Cruise to a taping of ABC's THE VIEW, was not allowed to go to the bathroom alone, reports THE NEW YORK POST. At one point, Cruise reportedly asked where the bathroom was, and took Holmes with him into the men's room. Later, when Holmes had to go, "three SCIENTOLOGISTS followed her in," THE POST reports. Concerns were especially raised since Holmes has been spotted "looking like she hadn't slept in weeks."
