If you are looking for performance under pressure, look no further than AMERICAN IDOL.
Week after week, hopeful contestants perform songs in front of a panel of music industry judges who can make or break their fledgling singing careers. Viewers then cast their votes for their favorite performers. At the end of each season, the AMERICAN IDOL winner receives a record contract, potentially worth millions. Some of the "losers" even receive industry exposure that helps launch their careers.
Behind the scenes, the post team must perform flawlessly too, delivering multiple shows each week in primetime. While the show's fundamental formula hasn't changed over the years -- it still combines live musical performances with eye-catching graphics and taped segments that focus on the backstage pranks, hometown lives, and last-minute jitters of the talented young singers -- the post team rose to a new challenge this season. For the first time, programs were shot, edited, and finished in HD.
"With AVID DNxHD, we were able to bring the HD files down to a manageable size while maintaining the quality," says BILL DERONDE, supervising editor for AMERICAN IDOL.
