YANKEES Hoping To Unveil Plan For New Ballpark Soon

(From The New York Times)

THE YANKEES in the coming weeks will unveil an $800 million plan to build a ballpark "in the Bronx that they will finance without public money for construction," according to RICHARD SANDOMIR of THE NEW YORK TIMES.

The plan calls for "about $300 million in government aid, much of it from the state to build garages, but the state will get the parking revenue," said Yankees President RANDY LEVINE on Wednesday as he briefed NEW YORK STATE LAWMAKERS, including Assembly Speaker SHELDON SILVER, on the plan.

Silver's spokesperson, CHARLES CARRIER, said, "There were no indications of any problems."

Levine added, "We're working very hard to pull all the final pieces together. We expect to announce in a few weeks."
