As a VIDEO EDITOR whose experience goes back to 3/4" U-MATIC TAPE -- and who used to hold strips of audio tape in his teeth while editing radio programs and spots with wax pencils and razor blades -- I have had a long, fruitful and creative relationship with all forms of magnetic tape. Nevertheless, the advantages of tapeless acquistion are many and unassailable -- It IS the right tool for the right job for 21st century newsgathering.
As MGBG's ARDELL HILL says, "the case for tapeless technology is so obvious, it's almost difficult to explain. Why would anyone still want to use tape in this day and age?"
[Most kids, would consider me a dinosaur already -- having edited with 3/4" U-MATIC tape, SONY 1100 1" tape machines, and cut my own film (yes film) and audio soundtracks as well as 1/4" reel-to-reel audio tape with nothing more than a razor blade and grease pencil (oh those sliced fingers!). While those days helped shape us all into the craft editors we are today, we're all thankful technology has rapidly advanced our craft in favor of creativity.]
