The unbleeped F-word wasn't the only problem for SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE producer LORNE MICHAELS last weekend.
An inside source tells us that PAULA ABDUL was meant to play herself for the entire sketch that parodied her recent alleged sex scandal -- and even portrayed her character during the dress rehearsal in the early evening.
But when it came time to go live nationally, Abdul would do only a cameo -- forcing cast member AMY POEHLER to step in and take over.
"All the lines delivered by Amy Poehler were originally spoken by (Abdul) in the dress rehearsal," said our onsite source. "I guess she had some second thoughts about how far she wanted to go making fun of her situation."
