(From The Hartford Courant)
In other news from a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, STAR WARS: EPISODE III -- REVENGE OF THE SITH was available online Thursday, just hours after the hotly anticipated movie opened at cinemas around the world.
The film was made available on BIT TORRENT, an Internet file-sharing network, and more than 16,000 people downloaded it.
One day earlier, a "work print" of the film was circulated from the same site. This version of SITH, made before final post-production work, contains a running timecode, indicating that the print came from inside the studio. DVD copies of that version were being sold for $5 on the streets of New York Thursday.
Director GEORGE LUCAS' company LUCASFILM declined to comment on the security breach.
THE MOTION PICTURE ASSOCIATION OF AMERICA claims that illegally pirated copies of newly released films cost studios an estimated $3 billion annually.
Aaarrrrgh!
