(From The Newark Star Ledger -- By Jason Jett)
Like many municipal access cable television channels, Union's TV-34 began with students and an audio-visual director at the local high school.
While programming on the channels typically consists of community bulletin boards, special events in schools and government meetings, Union has sought to gain and hold an audience by utilizing commercial television techniques and balancing information with entertainment.
TV-34 broadcasts movie classics, a music variety show, a cooking program, news features on local businesses and programming expressly for children via COMCAST OF NEW JERSEY in Union.
Last month it joined a handful of New Jersey municipalities in Webcasting (uploading video on the Internet) government meetings and launched live feeds of national news, sports, entertainment and business.
Its web site is UnionTV34.com.
This spring VERIZON FIOS TV will send TV-34's signal regionally, expanding its coverage into Somerset, Middlesex and Morris counties.
