(From Cynopsis)
A major U.S. wireless carrier took an important first step toward opening its network.
VERIZON WIRELESS announced it will open up to enable customers to use mobile devices and software not sold by the carrier.
VERIZON will commission a $20 million testing lab to approve third party devices and publish standards allowing developers to integrate applications within their network.
The move begs the question whether or not VERIZON will join the GOOGLE-led OPEN HANDSET ALLIANCE and integrate with the ANDROID operating system, steps
T-MOBILE has already taken.
