QUITE FRANKLY Host SMITH Unhappy About Show's Development

(From Sports Business Daily)

As the one-year anniversary of the launch of ESPN2's QUITE FRANKLY approaches on August 1st, the show "seems to have fallen off ESPN's radar," according to TEDDY GREENSTEIN of THE CHICAGO TRIBUNE.

Host STEPHEN A. SMITH said, "ESPN has been very good to me. But I'd be lying if I said I'm happy with what has transpired with the show. There hasn't been promotion and marketing for a long time, though I'm confident that's something they will address. But that's not the source of my unhappiness. People don't know where to find me. The show is supposed to come on at 11 pm but almost never does."

Smith said that he "jumped at the chance" to move the show from its original 6:30 pm start time to 11 pm amid low ratings, "not realizing that live programming would alter his start times."

Smith added that he "wishes he could exercise more control over guest selections."

Smith -- "When it's your name, your face and your reputation on the line, you want to feel you're calling every shot."

Smith admitted he does not know whether he is "going to want to" continue the show.
