LAZARUS Family A Big Name In TV Sports

(From The USA Today -- By Michael Hiestand)

CRAIG LAZARUS says his 5-year-old daughter, OLIVIA, is "absolutely infatuated" with ESPN anchor BOB LEY.

Normally, you'd just file that under "kids say the darnedest things." But because of Olivia's bloodlines, it might be telling -- she's part of a clan that might have a genetic predisposition for sports television.

CRAIG, 39, is an ESPN Vice President for Studio Production, overseeing SPORTSCENTER and COLLEGE GAMEDAY.

His brother MARK, 43, moved up from heading TNT SPORTS to his current job as the President of TURNER ENTERTAINMENT GROUP, where he still presides over sports as well as other Turner channels such as TNT, TBS and THE CARTOON NETWORK.

PETER, 35, is an NBC SPORTS Senior Vice President for Sales and Marketing.

"Craig is the smartest," says Peter. "Mark is the executive in the family. And I'm the traveling salesman."

Given that national sports television involves a pretty small tribe, they're almost as big of an anomaly as the three Alou brothers who played Major League Baseball at the same time in the 1960s.

Predisposition towards office politics and ass-smooching more likely. Laz is no brain surgeon and anyone who has put in any tenure at ESPN knows that not too many original thoughts cross his grey matter. I hope his relatives are smarter than he is.
