Editing Minute By Minute On 24

(From Avid.com)

The tension on the FOX series 24 couldn't be any higher.

A presidential candidate, SENATOR DAVID PALMER, is the target of an assassination attempt. JACK BAUER, the head of the CIA's COUNTER TERRORISM UNIT, is trying to foil the plot, but he is embroiled in a conspiracy that paints him as the chief suspect. Add a kidnapping, an office affair, a raped (and pregnant) wife, the senator's conniving wife, plus the occasional cold-blooded murder, and you've got a non-stop thrill ride played out in clock-ticking, real time over 24 hour-long episodes.

It's just a day in the life of this critically acclaimed series, which has attracted attention for its distinctive reality-thriller style that makes use of offbeat camera angles, split screens, and non-stop action.

For the post team, keeping the real-time pace has been no small feat.

Three editors (CHRIS WILLINGHAM, DAVID LATHAM, and SCOTT POWELL) plus two assistants share the use of four AVID MEDIA COMPOSER XL digital nonlinear editing systems, which are connected to the AVID UNITY MEDIA NETWORK with 780 gigabytes of Fibre Channel storage to allow for simultaneous access to and flexible sharing of projects and media.

An AVID SYMPHONY high-end editorial finishing system is also used by Burbank, CA-based LEVEL 3 POST for finishing the shows.
