(From The Yahoo Avid User's Group)
DS NITRIS sales have fallen off the cliff in NYC.
This can be attributed to a couple of reasons.
Everybody knows that DS, as a standalone system, is a dead product. How do you think STRATOSPHERE sales are these days?
Tewksbury and its resale channel have and always have had animosity towards DS.
AVID's history with high end post is a litany of disasters.
They don't know, and don't want to know, about what it takes to do high end. They don't understand even the simplest terminology (ask someone in Tewksbury about 3:2 contraction or premultiplaction states, for example).
It's just too damn hard.
Clearly they don't think there's money to be made in high end. While DISCREET may want to show them their books sometime, Avid will never get this through their head.
Resellers see DS as a headache, because it's so different.
