Across the country, longtime local TV anchors are a dying breed.
Many stations, in the wake of the economic downturn and related ad losses, are opting to replace longtime, highly paid local anchors with less-expensive younger talent.
The change, along with stations' emphasis on webcasts and online news, is part of the industry's evolution from having star players to more of a team sport.
