I heard a story about some guy who stood up at a SMPTE conference and said something like "there's no such thing as quality deinterlacing."
The moderator of the event said, "Oh yeah, and who are you?"
I guess the guy didn't recognize YVES FAROUDJA (who invented the concept of deinterlacing).
