ESPN Chooses Not Pick Up Option On IRVIN's Contract ESPN; PARCELLS Coming Aboard

(From Sports Business Daily/Dallas Morning News)

In Dallas, BARRY HORN reported ESPN "has chosen not to pick up the option" on NFL analyst MICHAEL IRVIN's contract.

The parting was "amicable," and ESPN Communications And Media Relations Director BILL HOFHEIMER indicated that "nothing in Irvin’s past influenced the decision."

He added that Irvin "had not recently violated any network guidelines or violated any morals clauses."

Irvin said that he is "looking forward to opportunities to expand a motion picture career" that began with the 2005 remake of THE LONGEST YARD.

Meanwhile, Horn reported recently retired NFL coach BILL PARCELLS "has agreed to a deal that will return him to ESPN, but not to replace Irvin."
