LEE GOLDBERG Takes Over For SAM CHAMPION

(From The New York Post)

LEE GOLDBERG, the understudy to WABC-Channel 7 weatherman SAM CHAMPION for nearly a decade, is getting the job permanantly, station officials said.

Champion moved up to GOOD MORNING AMERICA last month.

The competition for Sam's spot on the local newscast has been pretty much between Goldberg -- the weekend forecaster -- and BILL EVANS, the veteran morning weatherman for the station for many years.

It is not known if Evans will remain with the station.

Goldberg's designation as chief weatherman for the station's 5, 6 and 11 pm newscasts was made in a memo circulated among the staff by the station's news director, KEN PLOTNICK.

[Congratulations and way to go Lee! It seems a long way from ICTV now, hunh? We'll be watching.]
