MOBILE ESPN is hanging up as of December 31st, 2006.
The cellphone service which is less than a year old, having launched during the Super Bowl last January, provided sports-related content and features on its phones.
The plan apparently is to get out of the hardware portion of the industry, and focus on the software or content portion -- potentially looking to other cellphone service companies as an outlet to its sports content.
While ESPN Mobile was backed by THE WALT DISNEY COMPANY, its shutting down will have nothing to do with the future ongoing efforts of DISNEY MOBILE.
