SAM CHAMPION New GMA Weather Anchor

(From ShopTalk)

SAM CHAMPION, longtime weatherman for New York's
ABC affiliate, has been named weather anchor of ABC NEWS' GOOD MORNING AMERICA (GMA),
the network announced Tuesday.

To be based at the program's TIMES SQUARE STUDIOS, Champion also will serve as weather editor of ABC NEWS, reporting on environment and weather-related issues, the network said.

He begins these duties September 5th, the same day
CHRIS CUOMO makes his bow as the broadcast's news anchor, joining anchors DIANE SAWYER and ROBIN ROBERTS.

A fixture since 1988 on New York's WABC-TV, which he will leave to take on the new job, the 45-year-old Champion is already familiar to many GMA viewers from numerous appearances as fill-in weathercaster.

Champion added that "for the forseeable future" he will double-duty -- anchoring mornings for GMA and WABC's
newscasts.
