Radio -- It's Raining TV Weathermen

(From The New York Daily News -- By David Hinckley)

The forecast for weather reports on the radio calls for another wave of familiar television voices to move in soon.

AL ROKER, the popular weatherman on NBC's TODAY SHOW, has signed on to do four forecasts a day for "smooth jazz" WQCD (101.9 FM), and IRV GIKOFSKY, better known as MR. G, will soon join the morning team at classic-dance WNEW (102.7 FM).

Roker says he has "always been a CD101.9 listener.
It's programmed on both my car radio and my home stereo."

Conveniently for a station that plays smooth jazz with a "chill" flavor, Roker says he's "excited to be doing smooth weather" and that with winter coming, "I get to forecast the big chills."
[Come on, you knew that was coming.]

He starts next Thursday and will be heard at 6:40, 7:40 and
8:40 am and 5:20 pm.

Mr. G, whose TV gig is at WPIX-Channel 11, was heard for years on the WCBS-FM (101.1) morning show. He will now be heard on sister station WNEW, also starting next Thursday.

Well-known TV weathermen often join in the banter on radio shows, and WQCD program director BLAKE LAWRENCE says Roker will be a personality on the CD101.9 morning show, which is hosted by DENNIS QUINN.

Roker "adds that celebrity element," says Lawrence.

Mr. G was a prominent character on WCBS-FM for years with HARRY HARRISON. Mornings at WNEW, he'll work with
MICHELLE VISAGE and JOE CAUSI.

Several other TV weathercasters also are heard on the radio. Weekend weatherman CRAIG ALLEN of WCBS-Channel 2 is heard weekdays on WCBS-AM (880 AM), NICK GREGORY of Channel 5 does the morning weather on WLTW (106.7 FM), and
BILL EVANS of WABC-Channel 7 is a regular on the
WPLJ (95.5 FM) morning show.
