WRITERS GUILD OF AMERICA, EAST Files Unfair Labor Practice Charges Against ABC, Inc.

(From ShopTalk)

THE WRITERS GUILD OF AMERICA (WGA), EAST filed UNFAIR LABOR PRACTICE CHARGES with THE NATIONAL LABOR RELATIONS BOARD today against ABC, INC.

The WGA-ABC NATIONAL AGREEMENT covering NEWSWRITERS, EDITORS, DESK ASSISTANTS/PRODUCTION ASSISTANTS, GRAPHIC ARTISTS, and RESEARCHERS in NYC and DC expired on January 31st, 2005.

Negotiations for A SUCCESSOR CONTRACT began on January 5th, 2005.

The charges allege that ABC has been ENGAGED IN A SERIES OF UNLAWFUL ACTIONS including MAKING UNILATERAL CHANGES IN TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT without first bargaining with THE GUILD, engaging in BAD FAITH SURFACE BARGAINING for a successor contract, and REFUSING TO PROVIDE THE GUILD WITH RELEVANT REQUESTED INFORMATION.

"We are disappointed with ABC's conduct during these negotiations. THE GUILD has come to the table prepared to NEGOTIATE A FAIR CONTRACT while ABC remains both INFLEXIBLE and UNREASONABLE. They left us no choice but to FILE CHARGES in the hope of moving these negotiations forward," stated MONA MANGAN, Executive Director, WRITERS GUILD OF AMERICA, EAST.

THE WRITERS GUILD OF AMERICA, EAST, is A LABOR UNION representing professional writers in FILM, TELEVISION, and RADIO.
