NBC Reportedly Interested In ESPN's MARK SHAPIRO

(From Newsweek)

NBC has made overtures to "at least three top media players in recent weeks," including ESPN Executive Vice President/Programming and Production MARK SHAPIRO, MARTHA STEWART OMNIMEDIA CEO SUSAN LYNE and TIME WARNER Executive Vice President/Administration PATRICIA FILI-KRUSHEL, according to sources cited by NEWSWEEK’s JOHNNIE ROBERTS.

Shapiro and Fili-Krushel are being pursued for a position similar to that of NBC NEWS President NEIL SHAPIRO.

NBC UNIVERSAL Chairman and CEO BOB WRIGHT "has been personally involved in some of the recruitment efforts," which are "directly linked to a yet-to-be-announced plan to restructure NBC's CABLE NEWS efforts and an effort to rethink the company's entire approach to the news business."

The search also "raises questions about the future role" of NBC UNIVERSAL TELEVISION GROUP President JEFF ZUCKER.

The outcome of the talks "is unclear, and they may or may not be ongoing."

Shapiro could not be reached for comment.
