(From Sports Business Daily)
The NFL is considering moving the NFL DRAFT from NEW YORK in 2006 or 2007, and SAN DIEGO "is one of nine cities that have expressed interest in hosting" the event, according to JIM TROTTER of THE SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE.
NEW YORK has hosted the last 40 drafts, but limited seating in THE JAVITS CENTER for this year's event and a dispute with MSG over the proposed new JETS' STADIUM "led league officials to inquire whether other NFL cities would be interested in hosting the draft."
SAN DIEGO INTERNATIONAL SPORTS COUNCIL President JOE MOELLER thinks that SAN DIEGO "could offer a setup in which there would be seating for 6,000 or more fans" at either THE IPAYONE CENTER in 2006 or THE CONVENTION CENTER in 2007.
Moeller said that the event "can be a weeklong festival that culminates with THE DRAFT, like the final four days of SUPERBOWL WEEK" with the support of the CHARGERS and the "know-how" of CHARGERS Executive Vice President And COO JIM STEEG, who was NFL Senior Vice President/Special Events for 25 years.
[How many more player packages would we have to cut if THE DRAFT was a week-long event?]
