(From The Hartford Courant -- By Pat Seremet)
The man from PROVIDENCE is leaving LITTLE RHODY for NEW ENGLAND'S RISING STAR.
WFSB, CHANNEL 3, has named GARY BROWN from WPRI in PROVIDENCE as its new news editor, replacing LYN TOLAN, who is leaving.
Brown, 33, who was at WPRI for four years, and worked at stations in OHIO and PENNSYLVANIA before that, will take over at CHANNEL 3 on August 24th.
First things first, though.
He's getting married August 11th to JUDITH CHAPMAN, a doctoral student at BROWN UNIVERSITY. They'll be wed at THE VENETIAN in LAS VEGAS and then will look into a move to CONNECTICUT, likely in NEW LONDON COUNTY.
Brown says he likes that CHANNEL 3 is in a competitive market and a bigger market. He said he looked at the landscape and the history of the station.
"In NEW ENGLAND, longevity and consistency mean something," he said.
There are already WPRI connections. CHANNEL 3's IRENE O'CONNOR worked for Brown there, and both DENNIS HOUSE and KARA SUNDLUN of CHANNEL 3 started as interns at WPRI.
Brown plans to immerse himself very quickly into the station and will continue his reputation that he says his reporters would likely describe as "tough, but fair."
Covering CONNECTICUT NEWS can be exciting [really?], but it sure has to be tough leaving BUDDY CIANCI.
