NBC Lures COLLINSWORTH Away From FOX With Six-Year Deal; COSTAS Next To Sign?

(From Sports Business Daily)

NFL analyst CRIS COLLINSWORTH has signed A SIX-YEAR DEAL to become STUDIO ANALYST and CO-HOST of NBC's SUNDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL in 2006.

NBC UNIVERSAL Sports And Olympics Chair DICK EBERSOL said that "he is close to casting BOB COSTAS" to join Collinsworth in the studio, adding that NBC might "close the deal any minute."

Ebersol noted Collinsworth will "probably have a nice role" in the 2006 TURIN OLYMPICS, and also said he is "free" to continue appearing on HBO's INSIDE THE NFL.

Collinsworth said that one reason for joining NBC is that the schedule is "more advantageous" than FOX. Collinsworth added that "loyalty was a factor," as he began his broadcasting career at NBC. Collinsworth said that he "leaves FOX in good stead," and added that he "would have preferred to be a game analyst at NBC."

Meanwhile, Costas said of his status, "People will make whatever assumptions they make and I'm not saying those assumptions aren't logical. But, I'll wait to comment on it until it's officially a done deal."

Ebersol said that "at least one more person will be added to" the NEW YORK-BASED PREGAME SHOW.
