KELLY MONACO Wins DANCING WITH THE STARS

(From People.com -- By Stephen M. Silverman)

GENERAL HOSPITAL star KELLY MONACO upset the odds-on favorite, former SEINFELD actor JOHN O'HURLEY (from WEST HARTFORD, CONNECTICUT), and tore up the dancefloor Wednesday night to emerge victorious on the live finale of ABC's DANCING WITH THE STARS.

Monaco and her professional dance partner ALEC MAZO scored low in the first round but snapped back thanks to some stylish hip-shaking during a samba that almost caused her to have a wardrobe malfunction.

"I have to lose my top more often," she said afterward.
[Oh Kelly, you tease...]

A disco ball topped the victors' trophy.

In the winners' circle, Monaco, 29, announced -- "All my life I've been the underdog. I know it's such a sap story, but I have."

"Well, not tonight," replied show emcee TOM BERGERON. Hurley, 50, and his partner, CHARLOTTE JORGENSON, had been judged to be the couple to beat.

Contestants previously eliminated (each coupled with a pro partner) were JOEY McINTYRE (of NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK); model RACHEL HUNTER; TRISTA SUTTER of THE BACHELORETTE; and former heavyweight champ EVANDER HOLYFIELD.

The six-week DANCING WITH THE STARS has been a surprise summer hit. Last week, it was easily the most watched show, attracting 18.6 million viewers, reports THE ASSOCIATED PRESS.

[I've been rooting for Kelly to win DANCING WITH THE STARS from the start. I first developed a thing for her on ABC's Daytime Soap PORT CHARLES where she played LIVVIE LOCK. At a petite 5'1" and single, Kelly is definitely a Labay favorite.]
