CRIS CROSS -- COLLINSWORTH Leaves FOX, Will Be At NBC In 2006

(From Sports Business Daily)

NBC confirmed reports in today’s newspapers that CRIS COLLINSWORTH will join the network as an analyst for its SUNDAY NIGHT NFL COVERAGE beginning in 2006.

NBC UNIVERSAL Sports And Olympics Vice President/Communications And Marketing MIKE McCARLEY said, "Cris in the studio with JOHN MADDEN at the game puts the two most honored analysts in sports today working together on the NFL's premier primetime package."

Many observers expect BOB COSTAS to serve as host of NBC's SUNDAY NIGHT PREGAME SHOW. Collinsworth and Costas already work together on HBO's INSIDE THE NFL, and each won a SPORTS EMMY for his work on that show.

In CHICAGO, TEDDY GREENSTEIN writes FOX "reportedly had the right to match any offer" Collinsworth received. But a source said that NBC "was so determined to hire Collinsworth, network officials offered a monster raise."

FOX SPORTS President ED GOREN yesterday said that Collinsworth will not work for FOX this season. FOX' TROY AIKMAN will work in a two-man booth with play-by-play announcer JOE BUCK.

THE USA TODAY'S MICHAEL HIESTAND writes Collinsworth "could end up working somewhere in NBC's OLYMPIC COVERAGE," as he was a track reporter for NBC's coverage of the 1996 GAMES.
