(From The Hartford Courant -- By Allan Abels, Commentary)
KAYLA MILLER is so right (NEW JERSEY -- MORE THAN JUST A GARDEN-VARIETY STATE) in her commentary on NEW JERSEY on May 28th, 2005 in THE HARTFORD COURANT. This was a terrific article in defense of my home state.
It is amazing how many times comments, remarks and the general perception of New Jersey are based on no real knowledge of the state, but rather on repeating what someone else had said or on having once seen (what has now, for the most part, been cleaned up) fire-breathing refineries and landfills that were all located within a 10-mile, 10-minute stretch of the NJ TURNPIKE.
The personalities of JERSEYITES are certainly noticeable not only here in Connecticut, but wherever you go -- almost like NEW YORKERS and TEXANS. What other state (besides these three) conjures up a perceived stereotype?
