BERMAN Makes The Cut

(From The USA Today -- By Michael Hiestand)

After ESPN's U.S. OPEN coverage ends Friday, ESPN's CHRIS BERMAN is on TV golf Saturday -- as HBO's MAKING THE CUT premieres.

HBO exhaustively chronicles TV sitcom stars RAY ROMANO (EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND) and KEVIN JAMES (KING OF QUEENS) while they were among the 180 celebs competing beside the pros in this season's PEBBLE BEACH NATIONAL PRO-AM. Of those, 25 made the cut.

Romano, taking the whole thing incredibly serious, can barely bring himself to look at a player whose 18th-hole putt would knock him out -- Berman. Berman then does a lumbering dance and holsters his putter à la CHI CHI RODRIGUEZ. (Making that cut forced him to miss ESPN's telecast of the NFL PRO BOWL.)

Says HBO Sports President ROSS GREENBURG of the show -- "It should be an instructional video for every hacker, so they know if they can become a TV star, they'll make their way onto sports TV."

MAKING THE CUT airs on HBO this Saturday at 9 pm ET, with a re-air on Tuesday at 9 pm ET.
