Horse Tracks, Head To Head

(From The USA Today)

Racetracks that installed slot machines have improved their revenue while stealing fans and revenue from tracks, such as PIMLICO, that bar slots. However, other tracks have thrived without slots. A look at eight tracks in the USA with the number of racing days and 2004 average daily purse.

[Big Hank and I are against slots at horseracing tracks. They take away from the experience of thoroughbred horseracing. They are awful for horseracing fans who are there FOR the racing. I can always go to a casino if I want to play slots. However, when you see the comparison like this, the bottom line is hard to ignore. Thank heavens MONMOUTH PARK (Long Branch, New Jersey) doesn't have slots -- yet.]
