WNBC-4 Axes Three Veteran Reporters

(From The New York Daily News -- By Richard Huff)

Three veteran WNBC-Channel 4 correspondents were cut yesterday -- and another reassigned -- the result of NBC's massive, corporate-wide restructuring.

Staffers JOE AVELLAR, DR. MAX GOMEZ and JANE HANSON learned yesterday was their last day.

Also, ROSEANNE COLLETTI has been shifted from a consumer reporting beat to a general assignment slot.

"I don't think anyone ever expects it," Gomez said yesterday. "I knew we were in this reorganization mode, but I also have been doing this long enough to know nobody is bulletproof."

Hanson has been there the longest, starting in 1979.

For years, she was the co-anchor of the station's TODAY IN
NEW YORK
telecast, but left the morning grind in 2003 for a slot anchoring a series of specials about people and places in
New York.

Her last segment, JANE'S NEW YORK: BUILDING GOTHAM will air Saturday at 7 pm.

Given their tenures, it's safe to assume Avellar, Hanson and Gomez were among the better-paid correspondents at WNBC.
