TV lovers proudly hang their plasmas above the fireplace as if they were art, and now there's just the thing for TV snobs --
a gizmo that turns a TV into art.
Want to pretend you don't have a TV?
Get the GROOVE TUBE, a low-tech way to turn a high-end
TV into a light sculpture.
Designed by Seattle artist MATT GRIESEY, it's a translucent box made of paper and plastic with a grid of opaque dividers that attaches to the screen with suction cups.
When the TV (or computer) is on, the Groove Tube averages the picture pixels and creates an ever-changing display of colors in each square.
Just turn down the sound and turn up the stereo.
"No matter what the beat is, it feels like the light display is changing in time with the music," says LARA COFFMAN TUSHER of VelocityArtandDesign.com, which is selling Groove Tubes. "It's ingeniously simple."
But Griesey is moving on to other projects, so the product is being discontinued by summer's end, Tusher says.
In the meantime, medium (fits 19-inch to 22-inch TVs,
$30 on sale) and small (13-inch to 15-inch, $22.50) Groove Tubes are still available.
