Professional Video Gaming League Gets TV Deal

(From The Associated Press)

A U.S. professional video gaming league said it had signed deals to broadcast its gaming circuit on cable television and added THE BOOST MOBILE CELLPHONE NETWORK as a sponsor.

MAJOR LEAGUE GAMING (MLG) said that USA NETWORK agreed to broadcast a series of seven one-hour episodes of video game competitions during the U.S. holiday season.

It also said that new sponsor BOOST MOBILE, which markets cellphones and services to young people, would offer video highlights from the league to its more than 2.6 million customers.

"After three years of grassroots initiatives to build a credible, authentic professional video game league, MLG is now on the threshold of truly breaking through to the mass market," said MIKE SEPSO, co-founder and chief executive of the gaming league.

"Attracting top-notch sponsors and major network partners can only accelerate the MLG phenomenon," he said.

Formed in 2002 on the model of U.S. sports leagues, MLG runs a tour for professional gamers that has competitions in seven major U.S. cities, with one of its more popular games MICROSOFT's HALO 2.

Its national championship will take place in November in Las Vegas.
