(From Sports Business Daily)
THE NFL NETWORK yesterday formally announced that HBO's BRYANT GUMBEL and HBO/NBC's CRIS COLLINSWORTH will form the broadcast team for the net's RUN UP TO THE PLAYOFFS Thursday/Saturday TV package, which kicks off on Thanksgiving.
Gumbel will handle play-by-play duties for all eight games, while Collinsworth will work six games as the lead analyst, missing two due to scheduling conflicts.
The net has yet to determine Collinsworth's replacement for the December 16th and December 23th games.
To get Gumbel and Collinsworth, the NFL "agreed to provide compensation to HBO."
HBO SPORTS President ROSS GREENBERG would not disclose what HBO received, but said that there were "financial considerations."
NBC UNIVERSAL Sports/Olympics Chairman DICK EBERSOL did not seek compensation from NFL Network for Collinsworth's services.
NFL Network President/CEO and NFL Executive Vice President Media STEVE BORNSTEIN "declined to say if the NFL made a deal with HBO" like NBC's deal with ABC/ESPN for
AL MICHAELS.
