[The following is from our friend KRAIG.]
The IPOD is a wonderful portable device.
You know I have a pretty good stereo system and I don't even bother hooking up the iPod to it.
I do have a TIVOLI MODEL 2 RADIO.
Tivoli Model 2 Radio
I have a dock on top that I drop my iPod into for casual listening. It also has a superb tuner built in for radio.
It costs less and sounds better than more expensive solutions than the BOSE SOUNDOCK -- although I admit it doesn't look as cool.
As for compressed audio -- again, on the iPod MP3 at
160 kb/s or Apple's AAC at 128 kb/s is fine. But that ain't gonna cut it on a "real" sound system.
THE OLIVE MUSICA AUDIO SYSTEM is nice -- but it has a pretty small hard drive.
My music solution was a 17" IMAC with a 400 gig hard drive. This allowed me to use the APPLE LOSSLESS CODEC to archive ALL of my CD collection. I have the digital output connected to my preamp.
Now with the APPLE REMOTE and FRONT ROW you could have an amazing "jukebox." If you wanted to use the new
Mac mini you could hook it up to your TV for a display and add
an external drive for your music.
I've got a pretty expensive and old CD player. It holds one disc.
The iMac cost less and holds my entire collection!
Technology IS cool!
Kraig Bailey, thanks for the post.
