(From The Hartford Courant -- By Eric R. Danton)
For the record, BILLY JOEL never said he was retiring.
"I made a promise to myself years ago that I wasn't going to do the long, extended tours that I used to do," Joel says by phone from his home on Long Island. "That kind of got translated in the media as I'm going to retire."
Not that you could blame him if he did.
In more than 40 years as a professional musician, Joel, 56, has accomplished, well, everything.
He's sold more than 74 million records, won five GRAMMYS and a GRAMMY LEGEND AWARD, was inducted into
THE ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME and launched a groundbreaking concert tour of the Soviet bloc during
THE COLD WAR.
Billy Joel -- Not The Retiring Kind
[I saw Billy Joel's opening night in Hartford on Friday, March 10th with Bill and Tom/Jill Beers. What a great show! Billy's still a great entertainer. The best moments of the show were when his longtime roadie, CHAINSAW sang HIGHWAY TO HELL and when Billy himself rapped BIG SHOT. Wow!]
