(From The Yahoo Avid User's Group)
Below are some great HD factoids from a trade publication (GOVERNMENTAL VIDEO) about the acceptance and understanding of HD.
I don't have the article in front of me, so please forgive any inaccuracies.
Someone did a study of about 500 people that bought HD-ready/HD televisions.
Many continued to watch only SD on their HD set for the following reasons:
* About 25% didn't realize they needed additional equipment to actually get HD (I imagine ordering HD from their cable company or an additional tuner.)
* About 25% thought they were ALREADY watching HD because of the tag on some SD that says "available in HD."
[This is my favorite!]
* About 25% thought their new television was such an improvement over their old one that they didn't see any reason to get HD.
The article started with a personal anecdote of the writer getting a set for his parents and while he noted the difference between HD and SD, his parent couldn't see it so they dropped the HD channels.
[This reminds me of the time people prefered VHS' longer recording time vs BETA's better picture/shorter time.
The bottom line is, the average comsumer really doesn't care. All they want is what's cheapest and fastest.]
