ESPN Announces New 8 YEAR MLB Regular-Season Agreement

(From Sports Business Daily)

ESPN and MLB have reached an 8 YEAR EXTENSION of their TV RIGHTS DEAL, under which REGULAR-SEASON GAMES will continue to be broadcast on ESPN and ESPN2 through the 2013 SEASON.

ESPN's SUNDAY NIGHT BASEBALL will continue, and MONDAY NIGHT BASEBALL will mostly co-exist with local carriers, meaning the net will have virtually NO BLACKOUTS IN LOCAL MARKETS.

Also, a weekly broadcast on Wednesday, followed by BASEBALL TONIGHT, will air on either ESPN or ESPN2.

The deal includes up to 80 REGULAR-SEASON BROADCASTS ANNUALLY; up to FIVE APPEARANCES PER TEAM PER YEAR ON SUNDAY NIGHT BASEBALL, AN INCREASE FROM 11 APPEARANCES OVER A THREE-YEAR SPAN; CONTINUED CARRIAGE OF MLB's HOME RUN DERBY AND ADDITIONAL ALL-STAR GAME PROGRAMMING; AND AN AFTERNOON BATTING PRACTICE PROGRAM.

ESPN and MLB previously reached long-term agreements involving rights across ESPN's multimedia outlets, including ESPN RADIO, ESPN.COM,
ESPN DEPORTES.COM and ESPN 360.
