ABC Uses CHYRON Animation For MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL

With the help of CHYRON's DUET HYPER X and combined with award-winning LYRIC GRAPHICS SOFTWARE, ABC's MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL (MNF) GRAPHICS TEAM no longer has to contend with static player headshots and statistical information.

"By using THE DUET HYPER X, all player messages including the headshots are going to be animated," says PHIL CARMICHAEL, Director of Creative Services for CHYRON.

Carmichael adds that THE ABC CREW wanted the ability to have animations on BOTH CHANNELS and THE HYPER X makes that possible.

"They can actually have something animating on one channel and switch to the other channel and call up another graphic without interrupting the first," he says.

Another advantage of DUAL-CHANNEL ANIMATIONS, according to Carmichael, is the ability to playback much more animation including 3-D objects with multiple texture maps.

"From the graphic sense, ABC's now able to fly everything around -- and they can have these live looking headshots. The broadcast is flashier, there's more motion and it's more energetic," he says.

Carmichael also adds that similar to ESPN and FOX SPORTS, graphics generated by the DUET HYPER X for ABC's MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL are upconverted to HD as the game airs live.
