LaCIE Introduces A Mobile HD Multimedia Player

(From Shoptalk)

LaCIE is one of the largest manufacturers of external hard drives in the world and yesterday they unveiled a new product that blurs the lines between hard drive and HD digital media player.

THE LaCINEMA RUGGED HD is equipped with an HDMI port and a local multimedia processor allowing users to not only store video, image, and audio files but also to watch, display, and listen to them when the drive is hooked up to any HDMI-supported display.

THE LaCINEMA RUGGED HD is bus-powered so it never has to be plugged into a power source.

As more and more media is stored as digital files instead of on tapes or discs, LaCie's hybrid hard drive-HD player may be the first in a trend of mobile multimedia players.
